How to tell if the New Philippine Peso Bill is real
With more and more new banknotes coming into circulation, it is about time the public is informed about the new banknotes. I saw a bulletin in Trinoma Mall the other day and decided this is information worth sharing. I take no credit for the content below.
Embossed Prints
Raised prints that feel rough to touch, i.e. the words “REPUBLIKA NG PILIPINA” and “LIMANDAANG PISO”, portraits, signatures, value panels on the face of the note.
Serial Number
Composed of 1 or 2 prefix letters and 6 or 7 asymmetric (increasing in size) digits located at the lower left and upper right corners of the face of the note.
Security Fibers
Red and blue visible fibers embedded on the paper at random and glow in two colors under ultraviolet light.
Watermark
A shadow image of the portrait and the numeral (i.e. 500) seen at the blank space of the note when viewed against the light from either side of the note.
See-through Mark
The word “PILIPINO” written in baybayin (pre-Spanish Philippine writing system) is seen in complete form when the note is viewed against the light.
Concealed Value
The denominational value superimposed on the smaller version portrait at the upper left side of the note becomes obvious when the note is rotated 45 degrees and tilted down.
Security Thread (for P100, P200, P500, and P1000)
A stitch-like metallic thread running vertically across the note changes color from red to green. The front of the thread bears the alphanumeric code (i.e. BSP500) in clear text while the back is imprinted with “BSP”, both in repeated series.
Optically Variable Device (for P500 and P1000 only)
A reflective foil that bears an image (Blue-naped Parrot for P500 and South China Sea Pearl inside a clam for P1000) and a small BSP logo. The color of the image changes from red to green when the note is rotated at 90 degrees.
Optically Variable Ink (for P1000 only)
Embossed ’1000′ denominational value at the lower right corner of the face of the note changes color from green to blue wen viewed at different angles.

Giant Punching Bags in China’s Subway Train Station

In your not-so-common news, Adidas has made a unique marketing campaign for China’s 23 million commuters in the City of Shanghai. Adidas put up giant punching bags wrapped in the posts featuring Chinese text when translated says “Every year you have to wait on the platform for about 1,824 minutes. Don’t waste your time, come and have some punch!”
Now if only they would install some of that in our LRT and MRT stations…
Death Battle! Justin Bieber VS Rebecca Black
Hahaha, this is an entertaining combatants analysis. I’m sure you have heard of Justin Bieber but if you haven’t heard of Rebecca Black yet, watch this first. I mean, c’mon, who makes lyrics like…”Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs. Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal” ……. “Gotta get down to the bus stop, Gotta catch my bus.”
Anyhow, check this out for a good laugh.
A Very Creative Marriage Proposal
Ok, I am a person that can appreciate creativity and what this guy did amazed me. Just thought I’d share. WARNING: This can be cheesy but heck, you gotta appreciate the creativity and effort.

That is shocking news. Luckily I was sitting down when I read your email and not half way up a ladder or tree. How are you holding up? I am surprised you managed to attend work at all what with thinking about Missy out there cold, frightened and alone… possibly lying on the side of the road, her back legs squashed by a vehicle, calling out “Shannon, where are you?” Although I have two clients expecting completed work this afternoon, I will, of course, drop everything and do whatever it takes to facilitate the speedy return of Missy.
Regards, David.

I never said I don’t like cats. Once, having been invited to a party, I went clothes shopping beforehand and bought a pair of expensive G-Star boots. They were two sizes too small but I wanted them so badly I figured I could just wear them without socks and cut my toenails very short. As the party was only a few blocks from my place, I decided to walk. After the first block, I lost all feeling in my feet. Arriving at the party, I stumbled into a guy named Steven, spilling Malibu & coke onto his white Wham ‘Choose Life’ t-shirt, and he punched me. An hour or so after the incident, Steven sat down in a chair already occupied by a cat. The surprised cat clawed and snarled causing Steven to leap out of the chair, slip on a rug and strike his forehead onto the corner of a speaker; resulting in a two inch open gash. In its shock, the cat also defecated, leaving Steven with a wet brown stain down the back of his beige cargo pants. I liked that cat.
Attached poster as requested.

Having worked with designers for a few years now, I would have assumed you understood, despite our vague suggestions otherwise, we do not welcome constructive criticism. I don’t come downstairs and tell you how to send text messages, log onto Facebook and look out of the window. I am willing to overlook this faux pas due to you no doubt being preoccupied with thoughts of Missy attempting to make her way home across busy intersections or being trapped in a drain as it slowly fills with water. I spent three days down a well once but that was just for fun.
I have amended and attached the poster as per your instructions.

Subject: AwwwDear Shannon,
I don’t have a cat. I once agreed to look after a friend’s cat for a week but after he dropped it off at my apartment and explained the concept of kitty litter, I kept the cat in a closed cardboard box in the shed and forgot about it. If I wanted to feed something and clean faeces, I wouldn’t have put my mother in that home after her stroke. A week later, when my friend came to collect his cat, I pretended that I was not home and mailed the box to him. Apparently I failed to put enough stamps on the package and he had to collect it from the post office and pay eighteen dollars. He still goes on about that sometimes, people need to learn to let go.
I have attached the amended version of your poster as per your detailed instructions.

Subject: Re: Re: AwwwI know, but that one is cute. As Missy has quite possibly met any one of several violent ends, it is possible you might get a better cat out of this. If anybody calls and says “I haven’t seen your orange cat but I did find a black and white one with its hind legs run over by a car, do you want it?” you can politely decline and save yourself a costly veterinarian bill.
I knew someone who had a basset hound that had its hind legs removed after an accident and it had to walk around with one of those little buggies with wheels. If it had been my dog I would have asked for all its legs to be removed and replaced with wheels and had a remote control installed. I could charge neighbourhood kids for rides and enter it in races. If I did the same with a horse I could drive it to work. I would call it Steven.

Lego Weapons Engineer
I’ve just come across something I found interesting on the Internet. Apparently, you can use legos to create a whole range of weaponry. From pistos, to shotguns, to chainsaws, to sniper rifles, and to miniguns. That exactly is what a 15-year old guy by the name of Jack Streat is doing in the UK. I’m so amazed by his engineering creativity that I wanted to share some of the videos below. More can be found on his YouTube Channel.
Lego Sniper Rifle
Lego Minigun
Lego Spas-12 Shotgun
High Five Etiquette
I just came across this very entertaining video that I thought should be shared. Enjoy!
Mosquito-killing Laser Turret
I have just recently stumbled upon an interesting piece of technology in development. Its the Deathstar for mosquitos!
Its developed by an invention company called Intellectual Ventures. The objective of the project is to help kill malaria mosquitoes in third-world countries. The device is made up of basic electronic components sourced from everyday electronic items it seems.
Here is a nifty video demonstration. Not e the blue flashes on the mosquitoes wings are it being hit by the laser. This video is a fraction of a second of what happens during a zap. Once this technology becomes commercialized, bug zapper or laser turret? Hmm… Laser Turret please!
Pizza Delivery Boy Gets Punked!
This is not a new video and it has been floating the ‘Net for some time but it is a must watch if you haven’t seen it yet. I laughed myself off for quite some time. I hope you find it just as funny. Enjoy!
Japanese Addresses and Other Opposites
I found this in YouTube and it is very well made and interesting bit of information. Just thought I’d share this find.
Cute Things Exploding
I came across this YouTube Channel and it was just so made of win that I had to share it. The guys from this channel simply takes cute things from the Internet and edit the video to add some explosions. Simple. Sweeet! Check them out at their YouTube Channel.
Here are some of my favorite videos, enjoy.
Top 5 Movies To Watch in 2010
1. Shutter Island (February 19, 2009)
Its a Martin Scorsese movie so its sorta interesting. It stars Leonardo Di Caprio in a story about two U.S. Marshalls sent to a federal institution for the criminally insane located in Boston’s Outer Harbor to capture a violent female escapee.
2. Iron Man 2 (May 7, 2010)
How can we not watch this?
3. Robin Hood (May 14, 2010)
When Ridley Scott (director of Gladiator) teams up with Russel Crowe again to make an epic movie of Robin Hood, it becomes a must-watch.
4. Prince of Persia – The Sands of Time (May 28, 2010)
Remember the PC game way back to all the newer renditions? I hope the movie doesn’t fail the franchise. I heard that the release date has been moved for better effects and refinements.
5. The Last Airbender (July 2, 2010)
I think this should be an interesting movie. I haven’t watched any of the animated series but it has been quite a hit. Its a movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan too so it should be interesting to say the least.
I’m gonna reserve judgement for the last 5 movies I’d recommend. Some considerations at the moment are Expendables, Harry Potter, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, and the Book of Eli. We’ll See..
Sniper Prank on Japanese TV
Only in Japan. Those guys sure can be extreme. This is what the video is all about, they got a guy in a room and they scared him into thinking that a sniper was shooting and killing everyone in his room. They were able to get the effects well organized that there were breaking windows, gunfire, and stuff. While the video is funny enough to share, I wonder how scary it must be for the prank victim. LOL.
Tom from MySpace tries out Facebook
Whoever remembers the days you still used MySpace? I came across this funny image on the Internet. Its supposedly MySpace’s creator ‘Tom’ trying out facebook. Hilarious. Read the wall from the bottom up for better appreciation.

I want this sticker!
I normally am not a big fan of car stickers as I don’t like the ricers who put so many stickers and dumb modifications on their car. But this…THIS I WANT!

Harry Potter Theme Park
Well.. officially, its called “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter”.

Universal Orlando Resort in Florida, US has revealed plans of developing the Harry Potter inspired theme park aptly named “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter”. (I still think something shorter would be nice). The project is a joint effort between Warner Bros. and Universal after gaining the rights to create a theme park based on J.K. Rowling’s novels. The park will be part of Universal’s “Island of Adventure” but expect the size and build of this park to be world-class quality.
The park is set to open in 2010 will be bringing all of the Harry Potter universe into real life as much as possible. The park will draw from both film and books across the whole storyline. Some of the announced attractions are:
- Hogwarts Castle
- Hogsmeade Station/Hogwarts Express
- The Owlery
- The Owl Post
- Ollivanders
- Dervish and Banges
- Zonko’s
- Honeydukes
- Three Broomsticks
- Hog’s Head
- Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods
- Dragon Challenge
- Flight of the Hippogriph
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
Here is a great walkthrough video:

Surrogates Trailer

This is my chosen movie trailer for the week. Surrogates seemed like a very interesting movie. Its sort of like “The Matrix” meets “I-Robot”. It stars Bruce Willis and is set to release on Sept 25, 2009 in the US.
People are living their lives remotely from the safety of their own homes via robotic surrogates — sexy, physically perfect mechanical representations of themselves. It’s an ideal world where crime, pain, fear and consequences don’t exist. When the first murder in years jolts this utopia, FBI agent Greer (Willis) discovers a vast conspiracy behind the surrogate phenomenon and must abandon his own surrogate, risking his life to unravel the mystery.
There’s an App for that: Apps for Stalkers
This video is so hilarious that I just have to share it. I love how creative some people can be.
Ninja Assasin Trailer

Ok, here is my movie trailer for the week. Ninja Assassin looks awesome and hopefully is a good movie. It’s a martial arts movie featuring Korean Superstar Rain. Here is the plot c/o Wikipedia.
“Raizo (Rain) is one of the world’s deadliest assassins, having been kidnapped as a child and raised by the Ozunu Clan, believed by the world to be a myth. When Raizo’s friend is executed by the clan, Raizo flees into hiding. He later reemerges, seeking revenge. Meanwhile, Mika Coretti (Naomie Harris) is a Europol agent who investigates money linked to political murders and finds that it is linked to the Ozunu Clan. She defies her superior, Ryan Maslow (Ben Miles), and retrieves secret agency files to find out more. The clan, finding out about the investigation, attempts to assassinate her, but she is rescued by Raizo. Hiding in Europe, Raizo and Mika must find a way to take down the Ozunu Clan.” (Source: Wikipedia)

Disney buys Marvel Entertainment for $4 Billion

Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy will be getting superhero friends quite soon. Disney has announced that it will be purchasing Marvel Entertainment (comics, movies, yes..the whole company) for $4 Billion in a combination of cash and stock purchase. Pending paperwork and other details, the deal is expected to be fully done within the year.
In official statements, according to Disney:
“This transaction combines Marvel’s strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters including Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor with Disney’s creative skills, unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties, and a business structure that maximizes the value of creative properties across multiple platforms and territories,” said Robert A. Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company. “Ike Perlmutter and his team have done an impressive job of nurturing these properties and have created significant value. We are pleased to bring this talent and these great assets to Disney.”
according to Marvel:
“Disney is the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses,” said Ike Perlmutter, Marvel’s Chief Executive Officer. “This is an unparalleled opportunity for Marvel to build upon its vibrant brand and character properties by accessing Disney’s tremendous global organization and infrastructure around the world.”
On a related note, most of Marvel’s blockbuster franchise movies are still tied up with studios so Disney won’t be making any superhero films just yet. Marvel’s CEO Ike Perlmutter will still get to run Marvel.
The fanbase on the other hand is mostly outraged as people are worried about seeing baby versions of their superheroes and maybe seeing Donald Duck VS The Hulk.
Here are some fan-made videos and mashups. Enjoy!
